The Lunar Eclipse Builder's FAQ
Lunar Eclipse is always looking for new builders to broaden our landscapes. Please review the FAQ below before submitting your building information to Lunar Eclipse. The following questions were created by our head builder and co-administrator, Domino, in order to get a better idea of what to expect, both from you and from us.
If you have a question that is NOT listed here,
please email us with your
question. We will do our best to answer you directly OR post your
question with the answer on this page ASAP.

1) Does filling out the application automatically ensure I get a position?
No. Your application will be judged on a variety of criteria, with the most important being the originality and amount of thought put into your idea.
2) Can ANYONE be a builder?
Generally, yes. Being low-level will not result in your application being denied, but if you are inexperienced with MUDs you may be asked to become more familiar with how things work and submit an application again sometime in the future.
3) Do I need MUD building experience?
No. If you have a good idea and a reasonable grasp of most of the game's mechanics from a player or immortal point of view, we'll take the time to teach you how to use OLC.

4) Will I receive a response to my application?
You will either receive an approval, a denial or a request to provide more information. This will come from Domino via email or note on Lunar Eclipse, depending on if you are an active player or not.
5) If I don't hear from Lunar Eclipse about my application, should I re-apply?
If you have not heard from an immortal about your application within a reasonable amount of time, you should contact
Domino to see where things are. There may be a technical problem with your application, such as an incorrect email
address. Or, unfortunately, we may just not have gotten to it yet depending on how busy things are. In either case, please talk to Domino before
resubmitting and allow at least 3-4 days to get back to you before asking about the status of your area idea or resubmitting your
application.
6) How much freedom will I have when building my area?
You will be given plenty of freedom in making your area. In most cases you'll
only be asked to make technical changes, not stylistic ones. There are a few exceptions, such as obscenities. You'll be informed of those as they
come up. One thing we do request is that all new areas have a medieval theme to them. It is true that several existing areas are not strictly
medieval in nature. That situation will be handled by the immortals as a special case, over time.

7) Can my area ideas be rejected?
Yes. Your idea may be rejected for a variety of reasons. The most common
are not having a well-developed theme, not demonstrating familiarity with how MUDs work, or not having an original idea. Try to avoid these
pitfalls when submitting your application!
8) What happens if my area-in-progress takes too long to complete?
You will receive a note asking you to provide an update, after which your area
may be removed and your builder status revoked if progress doesn't improve.
9) Will this make me an Immortal?
If your application is approved, you will be made a level 106 on the Builder's
Port. Your level and mortal status on the player's port will not change. However, being a builder is a good opportunity to demonstrate
the maturity and other characteristics that will be important if/when we decide to take on additional immortals on the main port.

10) Can I use an offline building program to make my area?
Lunar Eclipse's code has been modified to the extent that it's incompatible with
offline building programs. That may change sometime in the future, but for now be prepared to build online.
11) Does Lunar Eclipse have an overall theme?
Lunar Eclipse is currently exploring the idea of a Medieval based theme.
However, the plan is to incorporate non-medieval themed areas with the idea of time travel. Domino will let you know when he replies to your application
if your area ideas will fit in or need to be adjusted.
